Smart Array B110i Sata Raid Driver For Mac

Im kind of stuck i got a HP PROLIANT ML330 G6 Server X 2. Exisiting drives are 1TB. Controller is HP Smart Array B110i SATA Raid Controller. Bought some genuine 3TB HP SATA drives to upgrade storage space. Download drivers for Intel HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller controller, or download DriverPack Solution software for automatic driver download and update.

I'm trying to install Windows Server 2012R2 on a HP DL320 G6 with a Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller. During the install, it asks me to load the driver for the RAID, I load the drivers from cp022401 (also tried cp020545) and the machine promptly crashes with the HP BIOS frowny face.

That particular server was running Hyper-V 2012 with no problem, so I know that the hardware is fine, I'm just replacing the old hard drives with newer/bigger ones.

Do you have any idea how to install the B110i drivers successfully on Win2012R2?

Ok, finally figured out what was wrong! Thanks to Chopper3 for pointing me in the right direction.

The problem is that the firmware was too old for the Windows Server 2012R2 B110i driver.

I had to upgrade the firmware using Smart Update Firmware DVD Proliant Support Pack v10.10 first, then I was able to run SPP to get the latest version. After all that, the B110i driver ran fine.

Resolution: Systems with these controllers will ship from HP with the Software RAID mode enabled by default.

  • These model Smart Array cards when using RAID capability require a closed source driver that is not shipped or supported by Red Hat.
  • Contact vendor HPE for latest driver including setup and configuration steps.
  • In order to install RHEL or RHELOSP on these systems without the closed source driver and RAID support, the Software RAID mode must either be disabled (B320i controller) or switched to SATA AHCI support mode (B120i SATA controller).

    • a general outline of the instructions follows:
      • Obtain the appropriate driver from the hardware vendor for you model Bxxxi controller.
      • Load the third-party provided RAID drivers onto USB stick drive, or floppy disk.
      • Disable ahci within the server's BIOS for the Smart Array card (that is, enable RAID mode for the card).
        1. Connect the driver disk, whether its a USB or CD, to the system first.
        2. Insert the RHEL installation DVD and start the OS installation.
        3. Once got the initial installation option press 'Esc' key.
        4. Over here run the command 'linux dd blacklist=ahci'
        5. Now OS will detect different disks attached to the system. You have to select one by one until the driver disk is selected.
        6. After proper detection of driver disk the drivers should get installed and then you can move further with normal installation.
